The didaskalos (teacher in II Tim. 1:11) was one employed to be a teacher and to teach.

The euangelistas (an evangelist in Eph. 4:11) was one who was either given a message to speak forth to others or he had insight into God’s will and he proclaimed that insight to those to whom the insight was intended.

Message preparation was presented in three steps: preparing the biblical content; preparing the homiletical form; and preparing the delivery of the message.

The pastor must do an exegetical study of his congregation in order to learn their needs. He must also do an exegetical study of his text in order to understand its meaning. Then he must take those needs and that message from the text and bring them together in a message. That task is the joy and glory of preaching.
