Adam, thanks for this story. One of the major problems we have in my denomination right now is a tremendous lack of pastors and staff people available to churches. In fact, in my state (Mississippi), it’s said that about 25% of churches are without a pastor, and it’s almost impossible to find youth pastors and other staff positions. You were looking for a ministry leader, but I think maybe it highlights a shift that is necessary for many smaller churches looking for staff. What if God has already placed the right person in our church and we aren’t looking for them. What if God has the right person in our church but they don’t know it or they haven’t considered it or they simply haven’t been identified and poured into.
I also appreciate that you shared that this process took you significant time. I think we often forget that our own road to ministry wasn’t immediate and often took years of instruction and experience. We have to be willing to invest in the same way in the future leadership of our church.
