Discussion Board Initial Post – Adam Matthew
When I began serving as an associate pastor there were many new responsibilities that were put on my plate; different responsibilities than when I had previously served as a youth pastor. There was the preaching load, leading groups ministry, leading volunteer teams as well as the general pastoring load. When it came to leading volunteer teams there was one team that didn’t have a designated leader, this was the welcome team. So I began to lead the welcome team which consisted of around 30 people. I would meet with the team on Sunday morning, pray together, assign positions, as well as schedule them throughout the week.
Everything worked well on the days I was there, but on the days that I would preach the welcome team had no leader. This was a problem. I began to pray that God would send the right leader to be in charge of the welcome team. Months and months went by and then I started thinking “what if the right leader was already here?”.
I began to look amongst the team for someone ready to lead and gifted with dealing with people. Very quickly I found the right person. I had a conversation with her about the possibility of her being in charge of the welcome team, and she was open to it. Over the coming months, I began to advance trust in her. This began with simply scheduling people, and then it was leading teams. Over a couple of months, she was able to fully take over and lead the welcome team. This gave the welcome team a go-to contact that was available to them more so than I could be. Now as a pastor, I don’t have to lead that whole team. I just have to lead that leader and feed into that leader so that she can feed into the rest of the team.
