Theology affects real-life, on a regular basis in both tangible and unavoidable ways. First, how we understand Scripture and how we apply it to our day-to-day lives are influenced by what we believe about God. Therefore, what we believe about God impacts how we trust Him during times of suffering, when we are called to obey and when we do not know what will happen next. When there is poor theology it results in confusion. However, good theology gives us clarity, confidence and hope.
Second, the way that the church carries out its mission and does its daily ministry is shaped by how we understand God, salvation and the church. Therefore, a correct understanding of God, salvation and the church will influence how we preach the Gospel, how we disciple new believers, and how we care for those around us. While theology is an abstract concept, it provides guidance as to how pastors should lead, how churches can be used to bless their community and how all believers should seek to be faithful in this world.
